pillow talk.

One thing you should know...I am an ardent lover of pillows!  Almost always, I prefer sofas and loveseats to be in neutral fabrics and colors, but pillows...

Now pillows are another story.

Please, anything but neutral!

Throw pillows are the perfect way to bring color and pattern into any space--the bedroom, the family room, the kitchen and home office (on chair cushions.)

And in a few years, when you're ready for a new color scheme, it is so much easier to update pillows than updating large pieces of furniture.  So be bold!  Embrace the colors and patterns you love right now, by placing a few beautiful pillows around your homes.

accessorizing a mantle.

I am brainstorming a few ideas for accessorizing a fireplace mantle.  I am always a huge fan of symmetry.  It may be predictable, but it just always looks SO good!  So, two of each please.  All accessories are from wisteria, except the coral, which is from pottery barn.  The lovely cabinet in the first picture is from holly at life in the fun lane.

for behind the sofa.

These are a few options for my friend's family room "sofa table." Who says a sofa table has to be a table, right?!

a twiggy table.

I have admired this table for some time now. And now it's on sale. Yay! From west elm.

some chairs.

I stopped in at Pier 1 Imports today and saw lots of chairs I liked. The bottom two are actually not white and black, but more white and dark brown. And all of these are on sale!

i'll take one of these. . .

hanging out.

i would love to see one of these hanging over my kitchen table. so many colorful and original looks i love from seascape lighting.

to infinity and beyond.

Kate's Paperie has some of the best wrapping paper I've found. I would love to frame some of this superhero one for a playroom or boys room, and the chinese alphabet one would be cute framed too.

notes from home tour

A few pictures from a home tour I went to last weekend:

I love the lights hanging from the ceiling in front of the mirrors.

cool wall treatment.

the next laundry room i design should have a desk under a window.

my new favorite countertop. i believe it was called zodiac. said to be as durable as granite with even less maintenance. a little pricier. this and concrete are my top choices for countertops.

interesting detail on the front of the glass doors.

cool metallic chairs.

a black fireplace surround and built ins. different.

a pretty mantle

adding some molding detail like this above a mantle is a great way to give a room some history and architectural interest.

a collage or two

I'm totally into collages lately. I have a really cool one on my wall (even if it is still waiting for pictures in the frames). So if you, too, would like to do a collage, here's a good method:

1. measure the wall or area you would like the photo collage to be hung
2. tape the walls dimensions onto your floor. (So that the taped area is the same dimensions as the area you will be hanging your collage).
3. play with different configurations by laying the frames you want to use for your collage on the floor.
4. when you find an arrangement you like, take a picture of it. Take pictures of all your favorites. (If you take it from a side angle, instead of straight on, it will help you visualize it better).
5. go through your pictures to choose your favorite one.

design star stripes

This isn't a great photo but it captures the idea of the large tonal stripes on the walls that I loved from the last episode of design star. So who's it gonna be?! Totally Jennifer.

mouldings

Look at the ceiling and the fireplace mantle. So pretty. Especially with the big black and white picture sitting there.

Light & Airy

I am in the mood for light and airy and found these two things from pottery barn as I was looking for a new rug for my family room. I think I'm going to go with this very neutral jute look. It's such a good foundation to work from . . . and most important it's not rust colored. And I like this pendant light. Probably because I love grid patterns.

Catologue Finds

Aahhh. . . I like these looks. This first chair is on sale right now for $359. Could I have two? Pretty please.
